Title: Il Carroccio
Post by: Swampster on April 02, 2020, 05:18:53 PM
I wonder if anyone has access to any of the works of Voltmer on the carroccio. I'm really interested in what he has to say about the German usage of the Fahnenwagen. I've seen some comments which seem to be based on his paper regarding their use at Worringen, (one on each side I think) and something else about Mainz using one at Gollheim.

I'm really trying to find out whether there are any examples of a German army having more than one of them.

Thanks
P.

This conversation contains a copy of a description of the Köln Fahnenwagen, which I think comes from Voltmer's paper Fahnenwagen in die Schlact bei Worringen

Which may be of interest, though it doesn't actually answer the question about two of them.

Thanks, though I've seen that. This seems to have been far bellicose looking than the Italian ones.

There seem to be a number of museum reconstructions around e.g.
