I'm glad to see that lime wash was used in Europe so early.
A while ago, I built a replica of a small church which stands near where I live. I read up on it, found that it had been extended and built the model according to the original plan as in the 13th century. It was pleasingly suitable in size to build at the right scale for 15mm figures. I decided after a while to paint it as lime washed.

I used said church in one of my first competitions and played against a certain rules writer who lives quite close to me. His only comment - they wouldn't have limewahsed them that early. I was somewhat deflated.

They certainly limewashed castles in the 13th century - we have the bills from Edward I's building programme.
