There's a fair bit visible here and there heading west out of Newcastle.  They aren't kidding about the deprivation in the West End either. 

A couple of miles further up next to the former pit village of Blucher (pronounced Blutcha locally) there's a Roman fort that was excavated before WW2 and then covered up again.  An electric pylon marks the spot.
