There is an odd 'northern bias' to the thinking about the early inhabitants of the Americas and certainly people were there from some considerable length of time pre Columbus. An early idea about the Clovis culture being original settlers travelling over a land bridge about 10 thousand years ago has been well debunked by numerous pre-Clovis sites in N. America and evidence of much earlier inhabitation of S. America. Two major waves maybe but as so often the reality is probably complex with a number of smaller groups also making it across. That some groups would have come from the China area is simply logical from the positions especially following the northern route. Like Dave, I am not surprised.
