just the bare bones of the story...
It does not surprise me. In earlier days, those who died in hospitals and infirmaries were often buried just outside the buildings. When the Royal London Hospital in Hackney was redeveloped some years ago, it involved a major clearance of the graves located within the grounds as discussed in this article (https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/lancet/PIIS0140-6736(11)60630-2.pdf).
Medieval hospitals were also monastic buildings, so them having grave yards would be unsurprising. If the remains date from its period as an almshouse, it would surprise me more but, then, I know nothing about the almshouse tradition.
just as long as they remembered where they buried the bodies....

So what? Last year Greater Manchester Police forgot to record 80,000 crimes (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-55251366). It is either a sad reflection on modern literacy or proof that to err is human, but to really cock it up requires a computer.
