Over 50 new sarcophagi found at Saqqara

The wooden sarcophagi, which date back to the New Kingdom period – between the 16th and the 11th century BC – were found in 52 burial shafts at depths of 10 to 12 metres (40 feet).

Hawass said the funerary temple of Queen Naert, the wife of King Teti, as well as three warehouses made of bricks were also found on the site.

Looks like more good quality stuff.  Interesting to see Zahi Hawass has been "rehabilitated" and is again running big digs.  The antiquities ministry needs his brand of archaeological show boating at the moment, as they struggle to get the tourists back.

I visited Saqqara in 2019 and there was much work underway at the step pyramid with scaffolding everywhere.  As for tourists, there were not many.  There was work ongoing at Djoser's complex too.  Security was high.  We traveled with armed escorts.  Hoping to return to Egypt in 2022.
