If it has 4 wheels is it a chariot or a cart?

No idea, but if you disconnect its motive power, you end up with a carriageless horse.

And if the motive power comes to a halt you have a courseless haemorrhage.  :o

I think it's good we continue to draw on timeless classics in our delving into ancient history   8)

From Merriam-Webster:
"Definition of chariot. (Entry 1 of 2) 1 : a light four-wheeled pleasure or state carriage. 2 : a two-wheeled horse-drawn battle car of ancient times used also in processions and races."

The vehicle's purpose seems to be the deciding factor is its designation as a chariot or a cart. A chariot must always have a glamorous and prestigious purpose as illustrated by the proposed cover for the next Slingshot. One must maintain appearances after all.

To be honest, your definition seems as good as any I've seen.  8)
