While looking at something else, I noted Bret Deveraux had recently compared historical and Hollywood shieldwall fighting. Thanks Duncan. I was juggling both links at the same time and I must have recopied the wrong one. Apologies.
I commented on his blog, but there are few things Bret gets wrong abut hoplites when trying to fit all shield walls into one barrel. Somethings that hold true for archaic hoplites don't hold true for classical hoplites.
