Title: Byzantines from the time of Harald Hardrada
Post by: Dave Knight on February 08, 2022, 08:00:13 PM
I am going to run the scenarios from the Viking in the Sun Lion Rampant supplement.

Any suggestions for suitable Byzantine figures in 28mm?

Gripping beasts' saga figures would seem a safe place to start.

The Gripping Beast range is described as beind Thematic which I thought (and I am no expert) was before Hardrada's period.
Tjey may well still work for Lion Rampant purposes

The GB Thematic figures even have a couple of packs called "Harald Hardradda's Varangian Guard"! In general I think they look OK for the 11th century, except that some of the infantry could have kite shields - some of the GB cavalry do, but all the infantry look to have round ones.

You might also want to check out the Warlord Games website (https://store.warlordgames.com/collections/hail-caesar/products/11th-century-vikings).  These guys have figures for many of the Viking personalities.
