Particularly interesting given the hoard seems to be so late; at a date when it is received wisdom that the supply of new coins had all but dried up, so the Honorius specimen in particular is noteworthy.

Interesting period for coinage for obvious reasons. However just because freshly minted cons don't appear to have "landed" after honorius doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't a functioning cash economy afterwards

Agreed. Given the odd v late mosaic that has been found, I refuse to believe that Lurkio & Sons were tessellating in return for the odd chicken.
