Title: Podcast on hoplite battle
Post by: Erpingham on December 20, 2017, 04:55:52 PM
One of our favourite themes :)

If you have an hour to spare over the holidays, try this podcast (https://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/awblog/hoplites-300-face-battle/?utm_source=Karwansaray+Publishers+General+Newsletter&utm_campaign=1297e74542-Karwansaray_Publishers_Newsletter19_12_17&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_519a3fa91b-1297e74542-407438405&mc_cid=1297e74542&mc_eid=c6857677d6) from Karwansaray.

First mention of the "Big O" is around 22.30 with plenty of mentions thereafter.

I spared an hour now.

Paul's description of an experimental othismos with reenactors was very interesting, especially the bit about very deep formations supplying only a little extra impetus.

I agree - presumably the details are in his book.  All sorts of speculations on the evolution of the phalanx, how it was structured etc and , of course, plenty about Spartans.

Paul Bardunias? Yes there are some more details in his book - review coming up in the next Slingshot I believe  - though not as many details as you might want/expect.

Bought his book in the e-version. Looks good so far.
