ISIS forces are actively destroying anything they consider to be heretical to Islam within their sphere of influence.

I hate to say it but it's probably inevitable.
I think we're about 1400 in the Islamic calendar. Compare with attitudes in Europe in 1400

crikey, if you think in terms of the "enlightened" Byzantine empire, they went through several bloody episodes of iconoclasm!
