Archaeologists have discovered a New Kingdom Egyptian fortress just east of the Suez Canal in northern Sinai dating to the 26th dynasty. Graves of troops killed in battle are just one of the interesting things so far uncovered. More info on how the Egyptian army could move quickly into Canaan and points north (Megiddo for example).

18-19th dynasty, not 26th, acc'd the linked article. (The 26th belongs to the Late period, not the New Kingdom.)

I can see a discussion brewing on this point. Tharu - or Tjaru as it is currently transcribed, perhaps to avoid confusion with the Tharu people of Nepal - has 18th Dynasty inscriptions plus inscriptions of
inter alia Seti I and Ramses II, but the 19th and 26th Dynasties would appear to be one and the same, so both of you gentlemen would be correct. :)
