Title: Le petit Pompeii
Post by: Duncan Head on August 02, 2017, 08:58:08 AM
A Roman neighbourhood unearthed in Vienne has been dubbed "a little Pompeii" - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/02/france-archaeologists-uncover-little-pompeii-south-of-lyon

Appending a Pompeiian epithet seems fashionable: the unearthed remains of incinerated buildings at Peterborough we considered earlier are now being referred to as a 'Bronze Age Pompeii (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2016/jan/12/a-bronze-age-pompeii-archaeologists-hail-discovery-of-peterborough-site)'.

Still, nice that these things are being found.  Thanks, Duncan.

for anyone interested in the area in general then 'Roman Provence' by Edwin Mullins is very accessible and enjoyable - a cross between a travelogue and a history of the area
