the method of 'digging' the site was unusual to say the least...!

Biggest block excavation I can remember seeing.  With smaller blocks they can often scan them to map what's inside to guide excavators.  Don't know what they could do for something this size, though.

Article says the inner ring was filled with Humus, who knew there were such strong trading links with ancient Egypt.
