how many.....?!
Interesting find but "detectorist" is a new term to me.
Not come across this programme (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06l51nr), then?
Nope.
Leaving aside the TV show, detectorists have become embedded in our archaeological establishment. Its another example of amateurs and professionals connecting in a discipline, as we discussed elsewhere. The reason you keep reading about them is not just Dave Hollin's obsessions but because detectorists who play be the rules are supported with press coverage and their moment in the sun as well as a chance of a fair price for any trasure found, in order to encourage a responsible approach to their hobby.
