It will have started with the girls.  They always brought nits into class first, or so the other boys said

As father of three girls, the very topic makes me shudder  :(  Years spent in a seemingly endless battle against the nits, first one child then the next, armed only with a nitcomb and a delousing shampoo that the critters were inevitably resistant to.  Fortunately, by upper school, the girls had discovered "product" for their hair.  No louse can survive what a teenage girl puts on her hair.
