What gets me is how anyone can 'lose' a section of road.  I mean, I know many people who mislay their spectacles, but to do the same with a chunk of road seems like shear carelessness.

???

Well, if your going down hill quite quickly, and you miss judge the apex, your turn won't be tight enough and you can end up breaking onto the grass verge, which is called losing the road.
