I nearly wrote any images of Basques but thought better of it.
Anyhow, I bought a couple of packs of Baueda Basque Cavalry and offerred to review them for Slingshot. Dave was keen. Very good. Then I realised I couldn't recall any images of Basque soldiers from the early medieval period or later. Nor could I find any on the internet.
Can any one point me in the right direction.
Thank you.
The figures are labelled "Basque or Gascon", and I think the ultimate source behind them is the description of Gascons cited here (https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=6Zt0BAAAQBAJ&pg=PA166&lpg=PA166&dq=carolingian+gascon+trousers&source=bl&ots=zf5R8667yB&sig=ACfU3U2896MC3rch_fC2q80PTCUxhFNsCw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiLg7-v2o39AhVJQMAKHfc0C7cQ6AF6BAghEAM#v=onepage&q=carolingian%20gascon%20trousers&f=false).
Thanks Duncan that helps a lot.
There are certainly medieval images from the Basque Country e.g. some Romanesque church art (https://www.alamy.es/imagenes/escultura-rom%C3%A1nica-del-pa%C3%ADs-vasco.html?sortBy=relevant). By this stage, however, the images are pretty Spanish in influence, so not really much help if you are looking for Carolingians.
Might be something here - http://warfare.ga/index.htm
Thanks Anthony and Nik.
I've tracked down the inspiration for one of the figures. It seems to be based on an image of a Gascon in Osprey's Age of Charlemagne.
