I thought all rings were to show love or some measure of affection.

I can just imagine a hate ring. "Please wear this so the assassin will recognise you and it'll be easier to identify the body"

Don't remember any rings, but I have a feeling it was broadcast on an evening I tended to be out (perhaps wargaming) so I cannot claim to have seen every episode
