Interesting but why is anybody surprised. I would have thought 'People who's families have lived in an area for centuries know how to cope with local conditions' is hardly 'news'
It's a bit like the comment about using local materials. Not using local materials was a sign of great power and wealth. That's why it was such a big deal when a stone for Stonehenge might have come from Orkney. The ability to organise that shows immense influence and a lot of assets to deploy.
