It's worth pointing out to anyone who fancies making a trip to the wonderful village pictured at the head of this story that they may be somewhat disappointed when they get there. I'm afraid that I cannot tell you where the alpine idyll pictured is but I can confirm that it is not Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges.

None-the-less, a fine place to visit with the remains of the Roman town, nice archaeology museum and famous Romanesque cathedral. It's also close to many of the region's palaeolithic decorated caves if that takes your fancy.

Fair.point about the picture but the area is stunning having cycled around there a few years back
