I read about this in Jerry Brotton's A History of the World in Twelve Maps. It is his opening 'world map' and what I find surprising is just how recent it is and how long before we get anything better.

Irving Finkel has a good video about, which can be found here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUxFzh8r384)

I like Ian's point about how long it is before anything better comes along.  Makes you wonder how Alexander made it all the way to Afghanistan without many a wrong turn along the way...or maybe he just could find no direction home?  ::)
