Is there a difference?
Well, I have quite an interest in WWII in Europe, but don't have any intention of gaming it. OK, outside our period but I think in principle you may be interested in one period historically but not gaming wise.

My interests are quite varied compared to my perception of SoA member preferences in both historical and wargaming interests. Those interests ebb and flow with time and primary interests are difficult to pin down.

My interests ebb and flow too, but inspection of my bookshelves reveals that over time I've acquired rather more books about the AD 1000-1500 period than about preceding and succeeding periods.
Gaming-wise, Antiquity makes a stronger showing than you'd think from my library; local opponents' tastes have something to do with this, as has the perception that the rules we mostly use work best for Classical Antiquity.
