Thanks for that. Interesting stuff, but also interesting for an absence. In ancient India there are frequent inscriptions listing lands belonging to temples and towns, ending with stirring curses against anyone who stole such land - from which the inference is drawn that there was not a well established legal procedure to protect property rights. In ancient Greece, while you might try to use a curse to confuse your enemy in court you could go to court to protect your property rights and certainly in Athens pottery tablets have been found that were made to place on property that was being used to secure loans - an early form of mortgage document!
That's a curse all in its own right!
