Fascinating that they seem to have been plastered over and so preserved.
Mind you I would never want to live in a listed building, the complications are myriad. My sister had one for a while and swore that if she didn't keep swatting them away an infestation of dendrochronologists would have built to a worse problem than the death watch beetles!  :-\ (Apparently there were old estate records of where all the timbers had come from)
