Thanks Duncan.  I look forward to the programme about the restoration (Landmark Trust renovations are always interesting as they are bringing the house back to use, rather than just conserving).

old farm houses can be remarkably difficult to date
Ours we know was there in 1640 because we've still got the will, and there are gravestones locally from people who lived here dated about 1580 but that's about the limit to 'documentation'
By definition there aren't really many maps back then and the houses weren't owned by people notable enough to be mentioned  :-[
