Title: Mysians of the Army of Pergamene
Post by: David Kush on June 09, 2019, 08:08:30 PM
What would the Mysian Javelinmen look like in a Attalid Pergamene army? Would there have been any difference in appearance between the Ps and the Ax versions? Any input would be appreciated.
Thank You  -David M Kush

One of the two dead figures on the Stele of Menas (https://c8.alamy.com/comp/P0DEY2/funeral-stele-of-menas-a-soldier-who-died-in-the-battle-between-seleucos-and-lysimachos-two-satraps-who-fought-for-the-empire-of-alexander-the-great-281-bce-seleucos-founded-the-seleucids-dynasty-in-syria-from-iznik-turkey-location-archaeological-museum-istanbul-turkey-P0DEY2.jpg) is a Mysian, according to the inscription (possibly from the Pergamene army since the thyreoi shields are too late for the old Corupedion 280 BC interpretation, so the stele may refer to an otherwise unknown Bithynian-Pergamene battle).

And see John Ma's paper (https://www.academia.edu/31933713/MYSIANS_ON_THE_%C3%87AN_SARCOPHAGUS_ETHNICITY_AND_DOMINATION_IN_ACHAIMENID_MILITARY_ART_Historia_2007_) for a possible depiction of earlier Mysians.
