This book (https://www.academia.edu/24234095/The_Battle_of_Hastings_1066?auto=abstract)is said by its author to be the definitive academic work on Hastings. I've not read it, so I can't comment. But its an entire pdf book on the battle for free, which may appeal to members who collect e-books.
