I don't think we've had this article (https://www.mdpi.com/2076-0752/8/4/160/htm) before.  I confess I haven't read it but it seems academically sound.  And it has really nice pictures. :)

Thanks, I hadn't seen that.

Interesting; I note that the author says "Notice the absence of the turret, which could only be used on Asian elephants", even though he cites Rance's 2009 article which indicates very strongly that Carthaginian elephants did use the tower. Doesn't even acknowledge that Rance's conclusions differ from his...
