Funnily enough, just finished last night Barry Cunliffe's Scythians.  As he wisely observes, it is over-reaching the evidence to conclude that Bilsk definitely equals Gelonus, but rather indicates that Gelonus probably existed, since Bilsk demonstrates that large settlements akin to Gelonus were used by the Pontic Scythians, and thus it was not a figment of Herodotos' (or his informants') imagination.  Marks, however, lost by the journalist for not mentioning the skull-cup factory found there for added "human interest" in her story  :D
