This is a remarkable discovery but we should recognise that the headline photograph of the box is a computer reimagination. The actual remains are more fragmentary. Welcome to the future of the past.

They've now scanned the box, and discovered that (perhaps unsurprisingly) it contains a cat.

They're not sure whether the cat is dead or alive yet.

Probably not.  Any scan powerful enough to read its collar tag would risk serious damage to the kitty.
