Another contribution to the Italian/early Roman warfare discussion is Tomczak, "Roman military equipment in the 4th century BC". Much of it has been said before, of course. One interesting illustration (figure 4) is another Praenestine cista, dated "c.325-275", this one featuring a warrior with Argive hoplite shield and thonged throwing spear.
