Late Roman armour find from Bulgaria

This could be an interesting find.  Plenty of pictures but very fragmented, so difficult to understand exactly what we are looking at.


"The preserved chainmail elements discovered in the Ancient Roman city of Deultum are from two or possibly even three armors of unique craftsmanship.

The chainmail armors' rings are in fact rectangular slabs made of wrought iron which were all attached to a leather piece of clothing underneath."

So the "chainmail" is actually scale armour?

Or maybe lamellar?

In theory wouldn't leather clothing underneath make it scale - proper lamellar has no backing.

Some of the pics look like the inside of "hooped" or "segmented" arm-pieces.

yes I wondered about the arm pieces as well
It might be that the arm pieces have the leather backing and the rectangular pieces don't so it might still be lamellar, but until we see a better report it's impossible to tell
