800-year-old chain mail discovered in Co Longford

I look forward to a more detailed report.  On what basis is it dated, for example?  It also appears to be very small.  We shall see how this one develops.

I think what is bothering me is that the corrosion on the mail doesn't look like something buried in a wet place for 800 years.  It looks more like dry corrosion e.g. from a fairly dry, hot environment.

that was the bit i was looking for. I am slightly sceptical but will keep an open mind. I have seen chainmail look like that 10 years after being made and stored

It did look a little small to me also, but I was wondering is that had to do with the camera angle.

A problem that is only going to get worse as we have more and more re-enactors  ;)
