I made a trip to my local wargames show today.  First show  I've attended in a couple of years.  Recon in Pudsey was never a big event but I'm afraid it is very much a shadow of its former self. A small number of participation games with few takers, one display game (rather nice Italian unification in very large 28mm), a sad Hott tournament with three tables.  Only game in our period was Lance & Longbow doing a "what if" from the War of Saint Sardos.

I shot this while the players were taking lunch, so I had limited scope to avoid the food containers  :) Rules apparently a version of Lion Rampant.
On the plus side, very much a family event.  Couples, children.  Female gamers (I suspect sci-fi and fantasy interests).  Only about half the people I saw were old blokes, which was a plus for the future.

some positives then at least

Some positives.  Personally, a bit of nostalgia for early days.  As my wife said as we left, there weren't those folks we used to bump into anymore. No SoA stall. Fewer traders. Old wargaming or work colleagues.  But that's getting old for you.

Imperial Dave

indeed.

reminds me of events like Godendag but for slightly different reasons. As an event (not really a show) it was lovely and close and full of interesting characters and games. Now its moved and has lost the lustre

Yes, the storm is nowhere near as violent as it is for Dave, so no travel advisories. Health was positive and my wife fancied going, so away we went.

it was a bit hairy earlier but has settled down to 50-60mph winds so all good now  :)

A gentle breeze by Welsh standards...

Indeed. Living on a hill right next to the sea we don't get many windless days  ;D
