I want to put together a skirmish force of akritae for the Dragon Rampant ruleset.
My reading about akritae border troops leads me to think of them as predominately unarmoured/"light" types with various missile weapons with some riders. Armenians seem to figure prominently as do local nobility as officers. The distinction between akritae and bandits seems somewhat loose as well? 2 x archers, 2 x skirmishers, 2 x light cavalry and a heavier mounted unit led by the local noble seems sensible. Maybe a unit of unarmoured. defensive spearmen? They will contest with Bulgar and Arab raiding parties

Sorry not a great help on the period but curious why Dragon rather than Lion rampant as you are clearly looking for historical troops?

If I had a pound for every time I have done something similar I would be a richer man. ;D
