An interesting item (https://www.academia.edu/37011670/Onerarias_Piraticis_Sociauit_Naval_Organisation_and_Royal_Power_in_Twelfth_Century_Denmark_Granite_1_3_2018)on the period of change of Danish naval technology and organisation in 12th century.

One thing that struck me was the capacity of the ships to carry men and horses and how this might reflect on the ship numbers for Hastings.
