Here's another accidental find (I'm actually interested in Scandinavian archery finds - ho hum)

Medieval archery equipment
from the territory of Slovakia

This covers the Avars through to the medieval Kingdom of Hungary.

The later Hungarians interested me the most. The evidence is sketchy, but they seem to propose that the actual Hungarians shift from bow to crossbow, with various 'tribes' (either neighbouring or integrated nomads) especially in the east providing a horse archer element. This fits with Froissart's mention of mounted crossbowmen.
