Title: Turcomen, especially in Seljuk armies
Post by: tobypartridge on May 03, 2014, 11:13:44 PM
What did Turcomen look like?  I have always assumed that they would be vaguely Turkish/Mongol - fur hats, kaftans etc, but most figures of them seem to be in very tight kaftans and with fezzes.  Is this correct, or do we not know, or is this another wargamer myth, like the Sassanid radomes?

I think there are other pictorial sources that back these up.

Roy's link would be good for Black/White Sheep confederations.

Turomen in Seljuk armies were simply other Turkic nomads not part of the Ghuzz tribes.  They would look much like Seljuk tribesmen, though poorer with less armour...
