Title: Saint-Omer 1340
Post by: Dave Knight on May 04, 2023, 12:21:31 PM
I am looking for information on this battle. The references that I have at the moment are Sumption and Wikipedia.  It does not seem to make sense that an army of just 15000 deployed in 2 lines and behind prepared defences would lose on one flank and win on the other and be unaware of that fact, as were their opponents
Can anybody shed any light on this at all?

Clifford Rogers The Wars of Edward III has the Grandes Chroniques account of the battle (p.87)

Add: Clifford Rogers War Cruel and Sharp has a brief account pp201-203.  Has a discussion of size of forces and casualties given by various accounts.
