Avar DNA study

There seems to be no end to archaeo-DNA studies these days.  This one relates to social patterns among the Avars based on cemetery studies.  No direct military relevance I can see but I know folks like to follow the development of this DNA work.

One conclusion of the report (not as a result of the DNA but from mineral isotopes) is that there only seems to be one round of Avar migration.  They moved onto the Hungarian Plain and stayed there.  They weren't reinforced by later migrants from the Eurasian Steppe.

Which would make sense if the original reason for the Avar migration was dislodgement from their earlier area of operations by Turkic tribes.
