I was surprised to see that Alberta had no source of obsidian.  The find made much more sense when I read that it was traced to Southern Idaho volcanic fields.  Having grown up in Southern Idaho/Eastern Oregon and done quite a bit of artifact exploring as a youngster, I am not surprised that this region could have been the source of this Alberta find.  In the back country and along rivers in the summer, we often came across ancient sites where flint knapping was practiced in ancient times during family hunting and fishing trips.  Debitage, arrowheads, and spear points could often be found laying on the surface at these camps especially embedded along the riverbank during the low flow of summer.

Neat find, Dave!

How do you find these things?  "I was just reading the Times of India when I stumbled across a prehistoric find from Canada"  ???

My own thought would be that images often owe as much to previous reconstructions as to sources. Ian Heath's WRG book on the Dark Ages, for example, continues to influence manufacturers, as do Ospreys.  The evolution of depictions of ancient warriors is an interesting subject in itself.
