Title: What 'Other' Wars of the Roses Battles are there?
Post by: Dave Knight on July 26, 2021, 05:27:08 PM
Having published scenarios for the 16 major battles of the Wars of the Roses here at Test of Resolve HQ we are now considering if we can cover as many of the other ones as we can in  a 3rd volume.  The list that I have come up with is as follows:

15/12/1455   Cyst Heath
15/01/1460   Sandwich
23/04/1460   Pont de Neullay or Newenham Bridge
16/12/1460   Worksop
28/03/1461   Dittingdale
16/10/1461   Twt Hill
20/07/1469   Daventry (or another location near Northampton))
12/05/1471   London
14/05/1471   London
10/06/1487   Tadcaster
03/07/1495   Deal
18/09/1497   Exeter

I have excluded Ludford Bridge, Heworth Moor and Stamford Bridge as they don't seem to fulfill the definition of being a battle, Nibley Hill and Blackheath because they are not really Wars of the Roses battles  and Piltdown because we are thinking of doing something different for the Irish.

Have I missed any?

12/3/71 Empingham/Losecoat Field/Hornfield

Add: Is Clyst Heath any more a WoTR battle than Nibley Green?  It's usually described as a "feud".

Empingham is in Scenario book 2.

My Cassell's book of British and Irish battles describes to contestants st Clyst Heath as Yorkist and Lancastrian althoughit was very much a fued.

Should have guessed you'd have done Empingham.  Not much of a battle but the king's involvement probably elevates it to "major" status.

Key things seem to be i) not being frightened of cannons ii) not being struck by a dawning realisation that they are in over their heads and their leader's motivations may not be what he said they were.
