A couple of weekends back the BHGS staged our annual Roll Call event in Cranfield. 133 players took part across 9 different competitions, for which all the results are now posted online on the BHGS Website (https://www.bhgs.org.uk/previous-results.html) - so any of you who headed off early to beat the traffic can now find out where you placed!
The BHGS team are now full steam ahead in ramping up for our biggest event of the year, Britcon (11-13th August) (https://www.bhgs.org.uk/britcon.html) in it's new home in the middle of the UK's wargaming map, Nottingham Trent's University City Centre Campus.

If you've not already signed up, why not book your Britcon ticket right now and start planning your army for the event?
Every Britcon entry ticket again includes a £5 trader voucher and also a grab-bag lunch for each weekend day you are playing - saving you somewhere north of £15-25 in on-the-day outlay compared to many other events and venues on the UK wargaming circuit (and also meaning that "queuing for food" isn't going to eat into your gaming, shopping and socialising time at Britcon either!).
The BHGS have also secured a complete block of student accommodation in University Halls, 5 minutes walk from the venue (and next to a Weatherspoons with late night opening) which you can book along with your gaming ticket - our allocation of rooms is already 50% sold out, so if you want to take advantage of this offer make sure to book soon before we run out of rooms.
We are also working on bringing in a few more competition periods, as well hosting several groups who will be sharing our venue to stage their own weekend-long "social" gaming events this year. If you think your group or gaming community might also interested in sharing our venue for a long weekend of uninterrupted gaming please get in touch and we'll see what we can do to accommodate you.
Before Britcon of course the The BHGS Challenge will again return to the UK's biggest gaming event, UK Games Expo at the NEC in Birmingham over the weekend of 3rd & 4th June with ADLG, DBMM and Epic Armageddon rulesets all on offer this year and availabe to book on the UKGE website.
Whichever of our events you are planning on attending, we look forward to seeing you across the table later in the year.

After a lengthy and sophisticated programme of research the BHGS have identified the possibility that many wargamers at #Britcon do quite like a pint.
So this year we've made one ourselves!
OK, our friends at Nottingham's own Castle Rock Brewerery have done the complicated stuff, but even so we are delighted to bring you Britcon Ale, an easy-drinking full flavoured best red bitter, well-rounded with some residual sweetness (like many of our players TBH..) and balanced with resinous hop character.
Brewed using 5 malts and two hops for a great balance, this 4.4% Britcon Ale is available only until the barrel runs dry!
Britcon Ale: only available onsite at #Britcon on Saturday 12th August (while stocks last!)
Excellent work
Do you want a master brewer to give you a critique of it next week?
Ah, finally I understand what is required to tempt our illustrious Editor from his Welsh lair.... ;D
Mildly surprised they didn't choose a darker beer; one brewed with brown malt.
crystal malt and chocolate malt are good in moderate quantities for colour and rounded (non hop derived) bitterness

A mate of mine made beer without hops, just barley beer. Frankly half way down the first glass you would add pretty much anything to give it some edge.
It can be done but it tends towards harsh

Everyone is welcome !
(In fact, anyone feel free to pop into the organisers office and say hi if you are there visiting the show too.
More laterally-thinking, we do have run of the building as part of our tenancy deal, so I had been thinking there is even a possibility to host some sort of SOA mini-conference-type event in future in some of the lecture theatres we have, which we can't really use for the show or gaming as they are tiered and seated...?)
An excellent idea
