Cited on TMP by me :)
It's a chapter from the
Wearing the Cloak book which I reviewed for
Slingshot, jointly with
Reconstructing Ancient Linen Body Armor, last year (or early this?). It is a good read if you don't have the full book.
Apologies DuncanI plead that I did it in a hurry and did not realise that you were Gurkan!
Roy
Wtf is a gurkan, anyway?
Gurkhan........you can go look that up.

How modest of you
Duncan is always modest. :)
Oh, I wouldn't go that far.
But I do at least try to be consistently obscure.
The pdf reminds me of this other invaluable resource on clothing (and arms) in the Roman army:

Having t-shirts, all more-or-less the same size, with nominal sizes ranging from M to XXL, I've got some sympathy for Obelix.
(I haven't got any of the mythical FB and WG sizes tho.)
I recently attended a presentation by a guy who constructed linen armor and shot arrows at it. Pretty interesting. The armor was actually more effective than similar thicknesses of bronze. Check out his website at http://www.uwgb.edu/aldreteg/Linothorax.html
