Title: A helmet and other items from Brescia castle
Post by: Erpingham on March 15, 2025, 12:25:21 PM
An interesting report (https://sagy.vikingove.cz/en/helmet-from-salerno-italy/) from Project Forlog on the so-called Salerno helmet, plus some items in the same display cabinet (well, why not?).

Up to the usual standards of work by this team, lots of comparative material etc. If Normans in the South is your thing, worth a look.

Another valuable study by the Project. What particularly caught my attention was the fragment of a north German aquamanile depicting a helmeted warrior showing in good detail how the mail coif could be wrapped about the lower face and fastened - a detail that is often 'fuzzy', at the least, on many drawn and painted depictions. Super.
