Title: Little Battles 2022
Post by: dwkay57 on May 16, 2022, 07:39:53 PM
You may have thought you had escaped this year, but no :-X

After battling with life, the universe and most other things, I finally managed to get a battle with my little fellas and a new army took to the field (well the dining room table actually) as well.
Longer report available on my website for those with more time on their hands than is really good for them.

Just like buses, you wait for ages then two turn up at once.

Herod tries to prevent another Persian invasion.

Last time I tried this the terrain took too long to set up for the battle to conclude properly. This time the terrain had another impact.

Looks like a good game

If the previous battlefield had too much terrain - this one probably went in the other direction!

Two of my poorest performing armies tussle it out for the wooden spoon.

Yes it was interesting. The cavalry melees on the flanks were longer and more intense than I had anticipated given that a lot of reluctant allies were involved. I guess there was some "luck" in the precise line ups - if one or other of the infantry lines had been offset by hex in either direction the result might have gone differently.

Why did the Persians cross the river?
To get to the Thracians on the other side.

Report on the latest solo-battle for my little men attached. More detailed report available on my website for those trying to stay out of heatwaves or the following floods.

It was time to give Jim the opportunity for another coffee break, so I set up a battle between one of my Greek armies and a Persian satrap, with a little bit of a scenario.
Both armies had a substantial reliance on allies, but some were better than others.
Short report attached, longer report on my website.

Interesting report, a very 'Persian' battle, 'we'd have done better if we'd had decent infantry'

(When are they going to start hiring hoplites, or calling up the Carians?   :D  )

I have quite a few Greek armies with hoplites Jim and wanted to keep the Persians "very Persian" and the satrapal armies somewhat regionally accurate (accepting that they don't match real satrapies and have very fictional names).

Whether I've made the Persian infantry - certainly in this satrapy - too bad or whether it was that the League was too good I'm not sure. I do have some Greek armies with poor quality hoplites, so I'll have to try them against this satrap. It is a chore, but someone has to do it.....

Glad it went well with your coffee.

The hills were alive with the sound of hoplites.
And though some forded a river, they didn't ford every stream. Which was a good job really as that is a different song.

Longer report for those who can remember the second verse available on my website. ???

Just in time before the mince pies take over the dining room table, my little fellas had another run out.

In something vaguely historical, it was Persians versus Greeks but on quite a grand scale.

Short report attached and longer report for those avoiding the festivities on my website.
