Dana Island holds fantastic promise for future research. The tantalising prize is the potential for identifying traces of the Hittite navy though it is likely that many years of work lie ahead before such claims are able to be substantiated. It would be prudent to acknowledge that the hundreds of slipways so far identified are not necessarily of the same date. What has likely been discovered are traces of a major, or perhaps the only, Cilician fleet base that contributed ships towards both the Achaemenid and later Hellenistic navies. Much more work will be needed to confirm initial suspicions and hopes.
