Splendid name - Treacle Island - and an intriguing idea that it was the closest thing you could get to a desert island near Wales!

Welsh saints seem to have liked Bristol Channel islands.  St Gildas (yes, that Gildas) lived on Steep Holm and St Caradoc on Flat Holm it is said.  I wonder if there was a hierarchy, with less famous saints like Tecla and Triog only managing to get little islands?

Ah, yes.  One can just imagine St. Twrogg gazing out over the Bristol Channel and considering the possibilities...

"Flat Holm?  No, Caradoc already has that one.  Steep Holm?  Gildas got there first.  Damn!  We'll just have to use that unpromising pile of rocks over there..."
